Bob Vylan and Kneecap Glastonbury Shows are the Subject of a Criminal Investigation by the Police

According to Avon and Somerset Police, a criminal inquiry has been opened into the performances of Kneecap and Bob Vylan at Glastonbury on Saturday. After examining the video, the police announced that it had sent a senior investigator to look into whether the remarks made by either conduct constituted a crime.

A press release stated: “This has been recorded as a public order incident at this time while our enquiries are at an early stage.Following the announcement, Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy described the aired events as ‘appalling and unacceptable’ in a speech to Parliament on Monday.

The specific piece of Kneecap’s or Bob Vylan’s set that will be the focus of the criminal inquiry has not been disclosed by the police.

During a live broadcast of Bob Vylan’s performance, the band’s vocalist Pascal Robinson-Foster, who goes by the stage name Bobby Vylan, led a chorus of “death, death to the IDF [Israel Defence Forces]”; the BBC stated it should have cut away from the performance.

The BBC’s live broadcast of the English punk-rap duo’s performance and the group itself were criticised for those remarks.

The company characterised comments made during the performance as antisemitic. It stated that it will “look at our guidance around live events so we can be sure teams are clear on when it is acceptable to keep output on air.
