King Charles praised President Donald Trump’s dedication to “finding solutions to some of the world’s most difficult conflicts” during a speech at the US state visit banquet, urging American support for Ukraine in its fight against “tyranny.” Trump responded by celebrating the “special” UK-US relationship, saying the term doesn’t fully capture its importance.
The speech, delivered at an elegant dinner for 160 guests at Windsor Castle, highlighted the strong cultural, trade, and military ties between the two nations. “Our people have fought and died together for the values we hold dear,” the King said.
The state visit continues Thursday with Queen Camilla and the Princess of Wales attending events alongside First Lady Melania Trump. The focus will shift from royal ceremonies to political discussions, including Trump’s meeting with Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Chequers, the prime minister’s country residence.
Wednesday’s banquet followed a day filled with royal pageantry and political engagements. Trump was warmly welcomed at Windsor Castle by King Charles, Queen Camilla, and senior royals. The president and Melania Trump arrived in ornate carriages and participated in a troop inspection on the castle’s manicured lawns.
