A recent EU report that recorded a record number of safety notifications in 2025 for the third consecutive year claims that the dangers of importing creams, toys, and phone chargers into Europe have never been higher. According to a recent report, the European Union’s Safety Gate system, which tracks dangerous products entering the market, received 4,671 alert notifications last year.

The 2025 figures, which are more than double those in 2022 and up 14% over 2024, are the highest since the system’s inception in 2003. Consumer products play a significant role in our everyday lives. During the introduction of the 2025 Safety Gate Report, European Commissioner of Consumer Protection Michael McGrath stated, “They must be safe for our health and for the wider environment, regardless of where they come from and what their purpose is.”

He clarified that the safety framework has become more crucial due to the rapid expansion of e-commerce and the volume of packages entering the EU from other countries. To detect hazardous non-food items, the EU implemented the Rapid Alert System in 2003. It includes dangers to the environment, energy resources, and property in addition to threats to human health, such as choking, strangulation, and hearing or vision impairment.
