Following the US and Israel’s strikes against Iran, airlines are still canceling and rerouting flights to the Middle East. Flights into and out of Dubai International and Al Maktoum International airports have been suspended, and British Airways and Virgin Atlantic are among the airlines having grounded flights.
British nationals are being advised by the Foreign Office to avoid travel to Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) unless absolutely necessary. Sheltering has been advised for those who are already there. Iran has attacked the Gulf states in retaliation before this.
Heathrow has advised passengers to check with their carriers as the impact on long-haul travel is becoming more widespread. At the airports in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, one person was murdered and eleven others were hurt. Four of those injuries were sustained by Dubai International employees.
Due to airspace limitations throughout the region, Etihad has suspended flights out of Abu Dhabi until 2:00 local time, while Emirates has paused operations in and out of Dubai until 15:00 local time on Monday.
Up to Wednesday, British Airways has cancelled flights to Bahrain and Tel Aviv. Services between Heathrow and Abu Dhabi, Amman, Bahrain, Doha, Dubai, or Tel Aviv may be disrupted for a few days, according to the statement. Londoners Richard and Hannah are currently stranded in Bahrain after traveling to Oman.
