August 13, MOUNTAIN VIEW, California – Google (GOOGL.O) launches a new tab As it races to integrate AI into its hardware, Google on Tuesday unveiled a lineup of new Pixel smartphones with deeper integrations of the technology.
This event at Alphabet’s Bay View campus in Mountain View, California, breaks with Google’s practice of announcing the new Pixel model in the autumn of each year since the flagship smartphone was introduced in October 2016.
The earlier release date is Google’s most recent attempt to incorporate competitors’ AI features into its consumer-facing products. It also coincides with Apple’s (AAPL.O) September planned launch of a new iPhone tab.
Apple said in June that all of its devices, including the most recent iPhone model, would receive updates that would bring “Apple Intelligence,” a plethora of generative AI-powered features within native applications, and an integration with ChatGPT, the Microsoft-backed chatbot (MSFT.O) that opens a new tab for OpenAI.
A feature exclusive to Pixels that allows users to search for data stored in screenshots is one of the new AI integrations that were unveiled on Tuesday. Additionally, Android users can now ask questions or create content by bringing up Google’s chatbot, Gemini, as an overlay on top of another app.
