Rafael Grossi, the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency of the United Nations, said Iran could resume uranium enrichment in a “matter of months.” In the meantime, US President Donald Trump stated in an interview with FOX News on Sunday that sanctions against Iran might be removed if they consent to proceed peacefully.
The sanctions are in place. However, I would rescind them if they can be peaceful, perform what they must, and demonstrate to us that they will not do any more harm. That would have a significant impact,” Trump stated.
Trump defended the bombing of Iran’s nuclear plant by claiming that “Iran cannot have the nuclear weapon, and they were weeks away from having it” after telling the reporter that he rejected Iran’s request for uranium enrichment during negotiations.
The United States and Israel jointly conducted several strikes on June 22 against Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan, three of Iran’s nuclear sites. In his remarks, Trump claimed that the facilities were “totally obliterated” and that the assaults had delayed Iran’s nuclear development by decades.
However, Grossi stated to CBS News on Saturday that “They have the capacity. I would estimate that they could have a few cascades of centrifuges operating and generating enriched uranium in a few months.
