The remains of Lt. Hadar Goldin, a soldier who was killed in a Hamas ambush in 2014 and whose body had been detained in Gaza ever since, has been delivered to Israel. According to the Israeli military, Lt. Goldin, who was 23 when he passed away, has been officially recognized and will be laid to rest. His fiancée, two brothers, a sister, and parents were all left behind.
On Sunday, the military wing of Hamas declared that it will turn over Lt. Goldin’s body as part of a ceasefire agreement. In accordance with the first part of the agreement, Hamas has now returned all 20 of the hostages who are still alive as well as 24 of the 28 captives who have died.
Earlier on Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Lt. Goldin’s family would finally be able to offer him a Jewish funeral and reaffirmed his plan to return the bodies of all hostages who have died. 250 have been returned thus far. He declared, “We’ll bring them all back.”
Deep sympathy to the family and intends to make all efforts to return the dead hostages and has plans for the continued implementation of the agreement” is how the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) put it.
