A court heard testimony from convicted triple murderer Erin Patterson, who reportedly attempted to poison her husband on many occasions, including with cookies she said their daughter had baked him.
A poisonous mushroom-laced beef Wellington was used by the Australian lady to kill three relatives and attempt to kill another last month. Three counts of attempted murder against her estranged husband Simon Patterson were first brought against the 50-year-old, but on the eve of her trial, the charges were withdrawn.
To safeguard the processes, the specifics of the accusations—which Patterson denied—have been suppressed; now, they can finally be made public for the first time. Gail Patterson, 70, and Don Patterson, 70, Patterson’s former in-laws, as well as Gail’s sister, Heather Wilkinson, 66, passed away in the hospital in the days after the lunch on July 29, 2023.
Heather’s husband, local preacher Ian Wilkinson, made a full recovery following weeks of hospital treatment. Although he was invited to the lunch as well, Mr. Patterson abruptly withdrew. Pretrial hearings, which are common before many cases, provide courts and parties the opportunity to decide what evidence can be shown to a jury. Since Mr. Patterson’s charges were dismissed in this instance, his testimony was not included.
