We recently had the privilege of interviewing DR Rawson, Founder of TinyTales Land LLC and the CIC Initiative. A seasoned entrepreneur with a heart for education and character-building, DR Rawson has launched over 30 companies and is now leading a global mission centered on values. Through storytelling and personal leadership, he is impacting generations—starting with children and extending to adults in business, education, and community leadership.
The Beginning
When asked about his early life and professional journey, DR Rawson shared:
“I’ve lived a life filled with stories—my own and the ones I’ve helped others write. I’m the father of six, grandfather of seventeen, and great-grandfather of seven. I spent four years homeless as a child and many more living with financial struggle. But those years taught me resilience. I went on to build 30 companies across diverse industries. At age 77, I founded what I believe is my most important venture: TinyTales LLC, a publishing company focused on character development through 100-word stories.”
The Mission: TinyTales and CIC
DR explained, “Our work is split between two complementary missions:
TinyTalesLand.com is where the character conversation begins. We create bite-sized stories and lessons for children ages 4 to 10. Every story is exactly 100 words, typically read in 43 seconds, and includes one or more of 25 essential character traits like Respect, Kindness, Creativity, and Joy. This format makes it easy for parents, teachers, and caregivers to spark reflection and build lasting memories with children.
YourCharacterCounts.net houses the CIC Initiative: Character, Integrity, and Credibility. This program is geared toward adults and focused on restoring trust in leadership, business, families, and communities. It’s a direct continuation of the lessons we teach kids—only now for boardrooms and life beyond childhood.”
What Makes a Leader?
We asked DR, “What qualities define a successful leader today?”
“Trust isn’t a perk of leadership—it’s the foundation,” he said. “A great leader needs more than a clever strategy. They need character. Integrity, humility, consistency, and empathy aren’t soft skills—they’re essentials. CIC is about helping people become the kind of leaders others want to follow.”
DR Rawson added, “And with TinyTales, we plant those seeds early. We teach children that their choices define them more than their circumstances. Our global education program is designed for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders, and the impact lasts a lifetime.”
Embracing Technology and Innovation
With the rise of AI and digital content, we asked how TinyTales and CIC are adapting.
“We’re a storytelling company built for a digital world. Our stories are published in print, online, and in multiple languages. We offer audio, video, and AI-assisted content. We’re also developing a television and live performance series called Grandpa Tells TinyTales to bridge generations with warmth and wisdom. The CIC Initiative uses platforms like LinkedIn, Substack, and podcasts to connect with adults right where they are—on the go, online, and always connected,” DR Rawson said.
Final Thoughts for Aspiring Professionals
For those just getting started, DR Rawson offered this advice:
“Start with why, and never lose sight of it. Whether you’re writing stories, managing teams, or launching your first business, build everything on character. People don’t follow titles—they follow trust. Character is your best asset, your strongest currency, and your greatest legacy.”
