Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang launched on Monday Alpamayo, a technology platform that the company claims will let self-driving cars think like humans. Alpamayo brings logic to autonomous vehicles, allowing them to think through rare possibilities, drive safely in difficult environments, and justify their driving judgments.” Huang spoke on stage at the annual CES technology convention in Las Vegas.
Huang also announced that Nvidia has began producing a driverless automobile driven by its technology, the Mercedes-Benz CLA, in collaboration with the German automaker. The car will be released in the United States in the coming months before being distributed throughout Europe and Asia.
Wearing his signature black leather jacket, Huang told an audience of hundreds that the project had taught Nvidia “an enormous amount” about how to assist partners in building robotic systems. Analysts say the announcement reinforces Nvidia’s expertise in merging AI hardware and software, as well as its drive into physical AI. NVIDIA’s pivot toward AI at scale and AI systems as differentiators will help keep it way ahead of competitors,” said Paolo Pescatore, analyst with PP Foresight in Las Vegas.
