Analysts believe that Ukrainian security services have increased drone and sabotage activities against Russian combat planes and submarines this month as a means of countering the ongoing Russian missile assaults against cities and energy infrastructure.

Over the past three weeks, Ukraine has destroyed multiple attack aircraft by using long-range drones to assault Russian airfields in southern Russia and occupied Crimea. Two Russian Su-30 planes were successfully hit in a sabotage operation at Lipetsk airfield in western Russia on Saturday night, according to Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence.

It took two weeks to plan the special operation at the airfield close to Lipetsk, according to Defense Intelligence. The CIA further stated that the saboteurs had departed the base “unhindered” and that Russian patrol patterns had been observed.

This month, there have also been attacks on Russian bases in Crimea. According to the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU), which provided images of the operation, long-range drones attacked two Su-27 aircraft at Belbek on the same night as the Lipetsk operation.

One of the planes was prepared for combat flight and had a full combat load on the runway. It was destroyed, according to the SBU. Modernized Su-27s are capable of carrying guided bombs, which have wreaked havoc throughout Ukraine.
