Mudragada Padmanabham is regarded as one of the most potent Kapu leaders in the Andhra Pradesh district of Kakinada. Sensations raised by Pawan Kalyan led the former MP and his son to join the YSRCP to unseat the actor-turned-politician in the Pithapuram assembly seat. But Kranthi, his own daughter, is not in agreement and has sided with Pawan, alleging that her father is being used by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to assail the Jana Sena chief. However, Padmanabham has charged Pawan with creating a rift in his family by pressuring his daughter to enter politics and encourage her to speak out against him.
Padmanabham didn’t end there, though. He made the political contest more unpleasant by launching a vicious attack on Pawan’s private life. Pawan decided to step back and publicly inform Kranthi that, while he valued her support, he would rather host her entire family one day rather than “break families.”
One of the many family conflicts that have dotted the Andhra political scene this election season is the Pithapuram episode. The living room fights are now public, taking place both offline and online for an audience seeking vicarious pleasure, much like the Telugu TV soap operas. The 2024 Andhra Pradesh elections have come to represent ugly politics and resentment.
