Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has suggested a “fact-finding mission” to the Ukrainian portion of the Druzhba pipeline to assess the damage caused by a Russian attack last month that halted oil deliveries.Hungary has an interest in getting the transfer back as quickly as feasible. “Hungary is prepared to actively participate in any endeavor that advances this goal,” Orbán states in a fresh letter to European Council President António Costa that was obtained by Euronews on Thursday.
Regarding this, Hungary is in favor of a fact-finding mission that would include specialists assigned by Slovakia and Hungary to confirm the Druzhba pipeline’s current state. He continues, Hungary will accept the results of such a mission. At the center of a heated dispute between Kyiv and Budapest is the disruption of supplies via Druzhba, as Kyiv has vetoed a €90 billion loan to Budapest.
Allegations of disloyalty have been made widely in response to the obstruction of the assistance loan, which was decided upon by EU leaders at a historic summit in December. Orbán writes that he is dedicated to finding a “timely resolution” and acknowledges the “political difficulties” of his last-minute veto.
