Pop sensation Taylor Swift and National Football League athlete Travis Kelce declared their engagement on social media Tuesday.
The two shared pictures of the Kansas City Chiefs player proposing to Swift on Instagram, writing, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
The American pair was shown in a pink and white flower garden. Swift’s left hand held a big ring in one picture, while Kelce was on one knee, gazing up at Swift in another. Swift’s song “So High School” was playing in the backdrop of the post.
Social media users responded favorably to the interaction; by Tuesday afternoon, the Instagram post had received over 17 million likes. The NFL congratulated. The wedding date was not disclosed.
Swift has won 14 Grammys, including an unprecedented four awards for album of the year. Kelce is a tight end who caught passes from quarterback Patrick Mahomes during his career and has helped the Chiefs win three Super Bowls. Kelce is 35 and Swift is 35.
During the singer’s performance at the Chiefs’ home stadium, Arrowhead Stadium, in 2023, the two began dating. At the time, Kelce expressed his disappointment on the “New Heights” podcast about not being able to meet her and give her his phone number at the event.
