US President Donald Trump has threatened Russia with high tariffs if a settlement to halt the war is not reached within 50 days, and he has said that the US will provide “top-of-the-line weapons” to Ukraine through NATO nations. It wants to make sure Ukraine can do what it wants to do, Trump stated after meeting with Mark Rutte, the head of NATO, in Washington.Rutte acknowledged that the Europeans will pay for the US’s decision to “massively supply Ukraine with what is necessary through NATO.
Trump stated that the United States will then deliver replacement Patriot air defence systems once European nations send Kyiv their own, which Ukraine depends on to fend against Russia’s lethal airstrikes. The president did, however, promise to “quickly distribute to the battlefield” top-of-the-line weapons valued at billions of dollars to protect Ukraine.
Trump’s “willingness to support Ukraine and to continue working together to stop the killings and establish a lasting and just peace” was praised by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on X, following his meeting with Rutte.
