Yoga instructors are using paddleboards to provide students with “an extra challenge.”
Aldridge Sailing Club in Walsall hosts summer sessions on the lake, hosted by Arabella Love, who lives in Codsall, close to Wolverhampton.According to Ms. Love, “that extra wobbliness of the board” in the water encouraged the kids to develop their muscle.
She continued by saying that participants in the classes had ranged in age from their 20s to their 50s, with one even using the sessions to help overcome a fear of water.
As a member of the Aldridge SUP School paddleboarding club, Ms. Love taught her first paddleboard lessons last summer. She has been teaching yoga since 2020.
She intends to run the sessions this year through September, having begun on June 1st.
She performs many of the traditional yoga poses in the classes, like downward dog, but stays away from ones that require one-leg balance.
The lake was 3 feet (1 metre) deep, so even if students fell into the water, they would not be submerged, she continued. During the lessons, a paddleboard instructor is present.
