During a planned visit to the region later this month, President Donald Trump criticized Chinese leader Xi Jinping on social media for China’s increased efforts to impose export limits on crucial rare earths. He threatened economic reprisal and stated that he no longer sees any need to meet with Xi.
There are some really odd things going on in China! They are growing increasingly antagonistic and are writing to nations all over the world stating that they wish to impose export controls on every aspect of production related to rare earths and pretty much anything else they can think of, even if it isn’t made in China.
Additionally, Trump threatened to impose economic sanctions on China, saying, “As President of the United States of America, I will be forced to financially counter their move, depending on what China says about the hostile ‘order’ that they have just put out.”
“We have two for every element that they have managed to monopolize,” he continued. On Thursday, Beijing tightened broad restrictions on shipments of rare earths, increasing the list of minerals under control and prolonging.
