According to Ukrainian officials, negotiations between US and Ukrainian negotiators on a prospective peace agreement with Russia concluded last weekend in Miami with little fresh advancements and unanswered concerns about security assurances and territorial disputes.
The Kremlin applauded US President Donald Trump’s new security strategy as the negotiations came to an end, claiming that it did away with the language used by previous US administrations to characterize Russia as a threat. US special envoy Steve Witkoff, President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, and Ukrainian officials Rustem Umerov and Andriy Hnatov started their lengthy discussion in Miami on Thursday.
Olga Stefanishyna, the Ukrainian ambassador to the US, stated on Saturday that although “difficult issues remain” following three days of negotiations, “both sides continue working to shape realistic and acceptable solutions.
At this point, territorial and guarantee issues are the biggest obstacles, and we are actively looking for the best formats to address them,” Stefanishyna stated. “Once all the information is gathered, more details will be given.
