As member states put pressure on Brussels to enact a temporary solution, Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen stated that there is “still more to be done” to reduce the surge in gas and electricity costs caused by the unrest in the Middle East.

Jørgensen urged member states to lower power charges as the quickest method to lower home prices in an interview with the main morning show of Euronews. Additionally, he claimed that lowering levies would “make it easier for the industry to compete.”Jørgensen told Euronews, “We’ve sent a very clear signal to the member states: we recommend you lower taxes on electricity.” “You don’t need to wait for another legislative proposal to be made; you can accomplish that tomorrow. It can be completed temporarily.

In the meantime, when EU leaders convene in Brussels next week for a summit that was originally planned before the war began but has since been become much more urgent, they are expected to press the Commission for clear, tangible recommendations that can be swiftly put into action.
