Multiple weapons specialists have disputed the United States’ claim that Iran was responsible for a fatal strike on the village of Lamerd on the first day of the conflict. Six specialists, who watched the evidence of the hit and reacted separately, disputed the US claim that it was an Iranian missile, citing the missile’s visual characteristics, the way it detonated, its trajectory, and the frequency of strikes in the area as the foundation for their conclusion.

Iranian officials have reported that 21 individuals, including four children, were slain. BBC Verify first reported on the strikes on March 28, citing experts who suggested that a US Precision-Guided Missile was used. The US Central Command (Centcom), which supervises US military activities in the Middle East, declined to comment on the allegation.

On March 31, Centcom denied the attack was from a US missile, citing footage of an Iranian Hoveyzeh cruise missile.US forces do not target people, in contrast to the Iranian dictatorship, which has targeted civilian targets in neighboring nations over 300 times,” the statement stated. When BBC Verify returned to Centcom with the experts’ analysis, it replied it had “nothing to add” to its previous statement.
