Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar has proposed altering the country’s constitution to allow the replacement of its nominated president, perhaps leading to direct elections. Magyar proclaimed on Monday morning in front of the Sándor Palace that Tamás Sulyok, whom he selected, had also abandoned the Hungarian republic, same to how Viktor Orbán did.The presidency of the republic is more important and powerful than any single head of state.
Hungary’s interest lies in restoring the presidency’s authority, which has been eroded by recent silences, unacceptable actions, and omissions.”I informed the president that if he continues in his position and does not resign of his own volition, I will inform the Tisza MPs of his decision today, and we will immediately begin the necessary procedures.
The prime minister held the press conference following talks with the head of state, Tamás Sulyok. He did not reveal to media what type of constitutional amendment the administration is working on, but he did say that it would not be a one-size-fits-all law aimed at one individual, but rather a framework that would allow other state leaders to be removed from office.
