Infantino “strongly denies these categorically untrue allegations,” a spokesman for the now-Fifa president reportedly told the newspaper. Infantino served as general secretary for Uefa from 2009 to 2016. The organization confirmed “a departure payment was made to the individual in question” in a statement.

The accusations coincide with Infantino’s struggle to maintain his position as FIFA president in the wake of his abandoned plans to sell World Cup shares to private investors. FIFA and Infantino have been approached by BBC Sport for comment.

According to The Telegraph, Uefa paid a six-figure fee to the lady who allegedly had a connection with the married Infantino while he was employed by the European football governing body.Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA, vehemently disputes these accusations, which are wholly false. A Fifa representative informed the Telegraph that any suggestion of improper behavior or a breach of laws or regulations is libelous.Since Mr. Infantino was never involved in an incident, no Uefa and Fifa employe has ever voiced a complaint about his actions.”

Uefa verified that the woman in question received remuneration, which paid for her to finish an MBA program at a nearby business school. All payments were made in accordance with the rules at the time, but they have subsequently been strengthened and “reflect those found in a modern, high-profile organization,” according to the statement.
