India skipper Kaur Vindicates Selection, Isha Eager Ahead of Asia Cup

India women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur defended her squad, in response to a statement made by Anjum Chopra about selection of the team for Asia Cup. “We have selected the best squad available for selection. “All of them have done a very good job and that is why they are in the team,” Kaur added.

Former skipper Anjum has raised questions regarding the selection of Pratika Rawal in the squad. Pratika has come in for Jemimah Rodrigues who suffered a high grade tear in her right hamstring playing for Southern Brave in The Hundred.

This is Pratika’s first call-up in the T20I side and she has not played a T20 game since the Challenger Trophy in November 2024 where she made 142 runs at a strike rate of 111.81.

Pratika missed the WPL 2026 for UP Warriorz owing to an ankle injury she suffered during the 2025 ODI World Cup was picked ahead of Anushka Sharma and Harleen Deol, who featured in the T20I side earlier, for the Asia Cup.

It’s also a question of whether an inexperienced, injury-returning player such as Pratika should be pushed right into the playing eleven, and for Anjum it’s greater. Pratika suffered cuts while fielding during an India ‘A’ 50-over game against England ‘A’ and missed the historic one-off Test at Lord’s in July.
