In less than 48 hours, police in Sydney are looking into a second potential mistaken identity murder at the hands of organised crime. Emergency personnel raced to a Merrylands West residence at 15:15 local time on Wednesday after learning that a man in his 40s had been the target of a drive-by gunshot. He passed away there.

A university student in his 20s who had no criminal history was shot during a house invasion in Glen Alpine, in the southwest of the city, at around 03:40 on Tuesday. He passed away there as well. The deadly attack on Wednesday might have been directed at the “wrong person, according to police, while the shooting on Tuesday seems to have been a “innocent life” taken by organised crime.

The male was shot at the doorway shortly after arriving at the Merrylands West residence, according to the police. Tragically, that is a possibility that the wrong person has been shot by these offenders,” police responded when asked if they were handling the case as a possible mistaken identification. Det. Supt. Simon Glasser stated on Wednesday that although the victim had no connections to organised crime that we are aware of, he has interacted with residents of this home.
