The Polaris Dawn mission, spearheaded by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, successfully tested the recently assembled spacesuits by enlisting civilians to conduct a spacewalk at the Earth’s furthest point, 877 km away.
The first of the three stages of the project was funded by tech billionaire Jared Isaacman, who also happened to be the first civilian to test the spacesuit on a spacewalk outside the Resilience spacecraft.
Engineer Sara Gillis of SpaceX cautiously followed Isaacman out of the craft and extended her arms slightly. Additionally, she played the Star Wars theme song on a violin while Starlink, Elon Musk’s satellite network, relayed the audio.

Retired US Air Force Thunderbird pilot manned the mission, Scott “Kidd” Poteet and SpaceX engineer Anna Menon, who stayed strapped in the craft while Isaacman and Gillis exited the vehicle.
