Adults With Diabetes Who Spend More Time Sitting Down May Be More Likely To Die From All Causes

Sitting time may increase risk of all-cause mortality in adults with diabetes

Nonetheless, the Mailman School of Public Health study from Columbia University did point to a greater death risk among diabetics who do not get enough exercise and who spend a lot of time sitting down.

The National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES) from 2007 to 2018 were the sources of data that the researchers used for their study. Adults in the US who were 20 years of age or older were included in this. According to the American Diabetes Association’s guidelines or based on a medical professional’s diagnosis, every individual had diabetes. They continued to be followed in 2019.

A longer duration of 5.8 years was seen during which 1,278 deaths and 354 deaths from heart disease were recorded. The majority of the deaths were linked to increased sitting time in conjunction with either no activity or insufficient activity.
