According to an 884-page police investigation, former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was charged with conspiring to stay in power despite losing the 2022 presidential election by 2.1 million votes to leftist Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

His fans poured into the streets and blocked roads before he accepted his defeat because he refused to accept it. Once more, the throng encircled Brasilia’s Parliament, Supreme Court, and Presidential Palace and attempted to enter the buildings.

According to the source, Bolsonaro’s close advisers in the army and government were involved in the coup preparations even before the election results were declared. Bolsonaro has  denied the charges and said that the charges were based on creativity and not on facts. He said his lawyers are reviewing the report and he would fight the case.

In addition to several fascinating information, the study contains audio recordings of some army officers who wished to keep leftist Lula out of the office and support Bolosnaro’s continued rule. An exchange between two senior army leaders can be heard on one of the tapes, which has not been released to the public but was acquired by the news agency Associated Press. The conversation demonstrates that some soldiers, at least, were prepared to take the chance of a civil war breaking out in Brazil.
