Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an African national to three months in jail to be followed by deportation from the country after serving his sentence for his conviction of attempting to connive, in April 2023, with a fugitive to steal an electric scooter, but its owner discovered them, so one of them fled into the building, where the residents caught him and handed him over to the police, while the other fled to an unknown place.
The details date back to an earlier time when a report was received by Dubai Police stating that an African and a compatriot were attempting to steal an electric scooter in Al Satwa area. The reporter stated that he heard noise outside his home, so he went out to check, and he saw the suspect and another person of the same nationality trying to cut the lock of a scooter he owned.
The suspect left the iron scissors and ran into the building where he lived, the reporter continued during the interrogation. He called for assistance from one of the residents, who apprehended the suspect and turned him over to the police, while the other ran away.
During the interrogation, a police officer reported that the suspect denied trying to steal the scooter and revealed that his fugitive companion had asked him to assist him in stealing electric scooters and bicycles that were parked in front of residences, including the victim’s scooter. He claimed, though, that he declined to take part in the crime and that he tried to leave because he was afraid of being accused of stealing.
