According to investigators on Tuesday, the shooter who murdered four people at a Manhattan office building before taking his own life claimed in a statement to have a brain condition associated with contact sports and was attempting to attack the NFL headquarters but mistook the elevator.
Investigators think Las Vegas resident Shane Tamura was attempting to reach the NFL headquarters after shooting multiple individuals in the building’s lobby on Monday at 345 Park Avenue, but he took the incorrect elevator, according to Mayor Eric Adams.
Although the degenerative brain illness can only be identified after a person has passed away, it has been connected to repetitive head trauma, including concussions, which are frequent in contact sports like football. Tamura apologised several times in the message and requested that his brain be examined for CTE, the police department stated.
Additionally, the message mentioned Terry Long, a former NFL player who was diagnosed with CTE, and how Long committed suicide in 2005. According to the memo, the NFL concealed the risks to players’ brains in order to make money.
