Hamas will have a “very short period” to disarm completely, US President Donald Trump warned on Monday, adding that “there’ll be hell to pay” if they don’t. Following discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump was giving a press conference in Florida.
If they don’t disarm as they committed to do, they agreed to it then there’ll be hell to pay for them,” Trump stated. And that’s not what we want. However, they must disarm in a short amount of time. The second phase of the Gaza ceasefire, which is widely anticipated to begin in January, is one of the “five major subjects” that Trump said he and Netanyahu will discuss ahead of their sixth meeting of the year.
A partial Israeli military retreat, a pause of hostilities, and the exchange of all Israeli hostages for Palestinian inmates comprised the first phase of the agreement, which went into effect on October 10 and ended combat that began in 2023.
A complete Israeli departure from Gaza, the disarmament of Hamas, and the creation of a Palestinian committee to temporarily rule Gaza are all part of the second phase, which is described in Trump’s 20-point peace plan.
