With nine nominations for this year’s Golden Globes on Monday, Leonardo DiCaprio’s most recent film, One Battle After Another, is leading the way into Hollywood’s award season. In addition to DiCaprio and his co-stars Sean Penn, Teyana Taylor, Benicio Del Toro, and Chase Infiniti, the film, which is about the kidnapping of a former revolutionary’s daughter, is nominated for Best Musical/Comedy Film.
Multilingual family drama With eight nominations, Sentimental Value is not far behind. Dwayne Johnson, Timothee Chalamet, and Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande of Wicked: For Good are among the other acting nominees. Despite its box office success, the Wicked sequel did not receive a nomination for best film.
The candidates also include Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein, the vampire drama Sinners, and an adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell’s book Hamnet. Irish actors Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley are honored in the acting categories for their parts in Hamnet, as was to be expected.
For his role as table tennis player Marty Mauser in the sports biography Marty Supreme, Chalamet has been nominated. For his lead performance in Noah Baumbach’s film Jay Kelly, which is about an aging Hollywood actor struggling with his life decisions, George Clooney received his 14th Globe nomination. In contrast, co-star Adam Sandler received a supporting actor nod.
