Fortnite is Back on IPhones in the EU and Android Devices Worldwide

After four years, the multiplayer shooter game Fortnite is once more playable on Google’s Android devices globally and on iPhones in the European Union, according to developer Epic Games. This is due to legal actions taken by the EU.

The world’s largest game studio, Tencent (0700.HK), supported U.S.-based Epic Studios, which launched Fortnite in 2017 with a last-player-standing, “battle royale” format that quickly gained popularity and drew millions of devoted players.

However, in August 2020, Alphabet’s (GOOGL.O) and Apple’s (AAPL.O) new tabs will open. After Fortnite introduced a payment feature against Google’s policies, the company was removed from the app stores. This led to multiple lawsuits disputing Google’s authority to charge up to 30% commission on payments.

Just 116 million people were using Epic at the time of the ban, according to a new tab on Apple’s platform. Epic said that although Apple is still preventing users from outside of Europe from accessing Fortnite and its games store, the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA) law is enabling Epic to open its game store within the bloc.
