The National Union of Journalists (SNJ) and the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) have filed a report with France’s National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office (Pnat), alleging Israeli authorities of “intrusions to press rights” in Palestine.

The two groups, France’s largest journalist union and the world’s largest, announced the move on Tuesday. Their lawsuit condemns what they call “an organised, systematic, and prolonged campaign to prohibit journalists, particularly French reporters, from entering Gaza and carrying out their work securely.

According to the complaint, no foreign journalists have been permitted to access Gaza freely since the Hamas-led offensive on southern Israel on October 7, 2023. The SNJ and IFJ emphasize that they are not targeting any particular individual, but rather a group of state and non-state actors.

The delays documented by the IFJ and SNJ were carried out by military, police, customs and administrative units, as well as by wealthy people and settlers in the occupied territories,” a news release said.

Louise El Yafi, one of the two lawyers behind the case, told French channel Franceinfo: “This is all the more extraordinary given that the Palestinian journalists on the scene are themselves working under extremely hazardous conditions.
