After a long, difficult, and winding journey, WhatsApp has finally attained 100 million active monthly users in the United States. This is quite the accomplishment for WhatsApp because that market is renowned for being enamoured with Apple’s iMessage; nowhere else in the world is WhatsApp as popular as iMessage is in the US, if not more so.
This information is verified and directly from Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta. Los Angeles, New York, Miami, and Seattle are the US markets where WhatsApp is expanding the fastest. Additionally, the company claims to have seen “significant growth” in the South, with over 10 million users in Texas.
We’re curious as to why WhatsApp hasn’t previously disclosed data of this nature. This, we assume, is an attempt to reassure Americans who are still hesitant to install WhatsApp that it’s okay because so many people have already done so. Will this assist in kicking the iMessage habit among Americans? Most likely not. WhatsApp will undoubtedly try, though, and keep trying.
It’s also likely no coincidence that this “transparency” campaign coincides with the public release of iOS 18, as that version of Apple’s mobile operating system will support RCS, allowing for the direct sharing of high-quality images and videos with Android phones via the Messages app. That may affect WhatsApp’s future US growth.
