The atmosphere at Dubai International Stadium was lively with the DJ playing popular songs from both India and Pakistan. Still, the Asia Cup match between these fierce rivals failed to live up to expectations as a thrilling sporting contest.

The usual camaraderie was missing, too, as neither team exchanged handshakes after the one-sided clash, reflecting the tension between the sides. This came amid ongoing boycott calls and high political tensions, especially considering the recent near-conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbors just four months ago.

Pakistan, fielding a revamped squad, aims to discover the right combination ahead of next year’s T20 World Cup. However, their lacklustre performance on Sunday revealed they still have significant progress to make under coach Salman Agha.

India completely dominated the match, with their bowlers stifling Pakistan’s batting lineup and their batsmen confidently attacking the opposition’s bowling. India’s bowlers, led by outstanding performances from spinners Kuldeep Yadav (3 wickets for 18 runs), Axar Patel (2 wickets for 18 runs), Varun Chakravarthy (1 wicket for 18 runs), and pacer Jasprit Bumrah (2 wickets for 28 runs), restricted Pakistan to a modest total of 127 for 9.
