On Saturday, crowds at Indian airports decreased, but hundreds of travelers continued to congregate outside Bengaluru and Mumbai airports as 385 IndiGo flights were canceled on the fifth day of the nation’s largest airline’s crisis.
After IndiGo canceled thousands of flights this week, the government announced exceptional support for the carrier and ran some trains to help clear the backlog, causing chaos for air travel around India.
The 20-year-old airline, which has always taken pride in its punctuality and enticed customers with cheap tickets, is facing its greatest crisis to date. IndiGo acknowledged that it did not adequately prepare for the November 1 deadline to impose more stringent guidelines for pilots regarding night flying and weekly rest.
Over 1,000 IndiGo flights were canceled on Friday. In a statement on X, the Delhi airport stated that while flight operations are gradually returning, some IndiGo flights are still impacted. 124 IndiGo flights in Bengaluru, 109 in Mumbai, 86 in New Delhi, and 66 in Hyderabad were canceled on Saturday, according to airport sources who spoke to Reuters. The Indian government has specifically loosened regulations for the airline, and IndiGo has stated that it may resume operations between December 10 and 15.
