The president of France claims that conversations are going on “at the technical level,” but he also criticises Moscow for not being willing to talk about peace in Ukraine.
On Tuesday, French President Emmanuel Macron said he was willing to talk to Russian President Vladimir Putin again.
Macron claimed that talks were still continuing on “at the technical level” while he was in eastern France. He added that the procedure was happening “in transparency and in consultation” with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, but he didn’t say when it would be done. Macron also called Russia’s recent strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure “unacceptable.”
On Tuesday, Russian troops hit Ukraine’s electricity grid hard, even though it was very cold all around the nation. Macron added that the attacks do not show “a real willingness to negotiate for peace.”Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni remarked in early January that “the time has come for Europe to talk to Russia too.” She called for the establishment of a “special envoy” from Europe to speak with one voice.
