We recently had the privilege of interviewing Raid Malik, Founder and CEO of Tamouh Fire & Safety. As a seasoned entrepreneur and industry leader, Raid has built several companies in different fields, including engineering, civil protection, training, administrative automation, and others.
Tamouh Fire & Safety has emerged as one of the leading fire protection companies in the UAE, with a grade ‘A’ classification from the Civil Defense Authority. In this insightful session, Raid shares his journey, the presence of his business, and adding a technical touch to all their services, alongside offering valuable suggestions for aspiring professionals in this field.
Career Journey Of Raid Malik
We first asked, “Could you share some background about yourself, including your early life and educational journey?”
Raid Malik shared, “I started my entrepreneurial journey at a young age. At the age of 9, I began by setting up a small stall to sell sweets by the roadside. Later, I opened a restaurant to serve traditional dishes and ran a stationery shop during my pre-university years. My experiences evolved further during university when I established a production line for packaging peanut butter and ventured into the car rental business. After graduating, I embarked on a new, more mature phase of my professional journey.
I also trained in various fields during my university years, such as car maintenance, aircraft maintenance, refrigeration and air conditioning, and petroleum. These experiences significantly enriched my knowledge during my engineering studies.
Over my career span, I have established multiple companies operating in diverse fields such as engineering, civil protection, training, administrative automation, and others. I’m an active member of organizations, including, The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), The International Institute of Risk and Safety Management, and The International Institute of Innovation.
I hold a degree in Mechanical Engineering and have also studied Management to enhance my leadership and business expertise.”

We further asked, “In your view, what qualities define a successful leader in your industry?”
Raid Malik added, “The qualities of successful leaders in this field should align with general leadership traits, like, setting a clear vision, making effective decisions, building a cohesive and motivated team, and problem-solving capabilities.
However, a leader in this field must also excel in certain other areas. Firstly, they should motivate their team to create innovative solutions and ideas. Also, they should be able to handle challenges and changes seamlessly, without compromising performance. Moreover, they need to establish clear standards to achieve goals with minimal cost, maximum quality, and in the shortest possible time. These qualities position the leader as a driving force for success and excellence in this field.”

To learn how Tamouh has adapted to the fast-paced digital transformation, we asked, “How has your organization adapted to the ongoing digital revolution and technological advancements?”
Raid Malik replied, “At Tamouh, we believe in the importance of digital transformation to enhance efficiency, and productivity, and improve administrative control. Since 2015, we have been implementing a digital transformation plan, utilizing systems that support task performance, monitoring, and data recording digitally. We automated all administrative processes, enabling remote work, which resulted in increased efficiency, improved work quality, and cost reduction.
We consider ourselves among the pioneers in digital transformation and technology utilization, which has been one of the key factors that helped Tamouh become a leader in its field in the region.”
Words Of Wisdom For Beginner Companies
Addressing the aspiring professionals, we asked Raid, “What advice would you offer to someone who wants to start a business in this field?”
Raid Malik shared, “My advice to starting a company in this field would be to firstly choose the right environment. Ensure the laws and regulations in your target area support such projects. You need to make sure the local culture aligns with the principle of ‘safety first.’ Operating in an environment with weak safety awareness or insufficient regulations may hinder your project’s growth.
Also, conduct a thorough market research to understand customer needs in the region. Remember to study your competitors, identify their strengths and weaknesses, and find ways to differentiate yourself. And, identify potential threats to your business along with analyzing your strengths and leverage them to attract customers and create a competitive advantage. Additionally, ensuring employee and customer satisfaction is vital. Focus on customer satisfaction, as both employees and clients are the foundation of your success. Build a creative and motivated team that shares your vision.”
“Understanding cash flow is also crucial and for this, study market financial fluctuations carefully. Learn the payment methods, and supply laws, and ensure a steady cash flow to sustain your business operations. And lastly, utilize technology wherever possible to enhance efficiency and productivity. Develop a strong system to streamline daily operations and ensure consistency.
These points offer a comprehensive roadmap for building a sustainable and thriving business in the safety and security field.
