On Monday, a car explosion at a metro station at the famous Red Fort monument in Delhi, India, claimed the lives of at least ten people. According to Dr. Manish Kumar Jha, a doctor at the nearby Lok Nayak Hospital, around thirty additional persons were “badly injured” in the explosion. He said to reporters, “Many are not in a position of recovering.”

The Central Industrial Security Force has placed airports, train stations, government buildings, and historic sites nationwide on high alert, even though the source of the explosion is still unknown. Americans are being advised by the US embassy in New Delhi to stay away from crowds and the surrounding region.

The Red Fort, also called the Lal Qila in India, is a Mughal-era fort dating back to the 17th century. It got its name from the huge red sandstone walls that enclose it. Every year, millions of tourists visit the UNESCO World Heritage site.

There was an explosion in that car.” Both the occupants of the car and those in nearby cars were affected, according to Golcha. According to Reuters, which quoted Delhi’s deputy fire chief, at least six cars and three autorickshaws were set on fire.
