According to authorities, a person of interest has been taken into custody in relation to a shooting at Brown University in the United States that resulted in two fatalities. A gunman opened fire at the Providence, Rhode Island, university on Saturday, injuring nine more people. The apprehended suspect is in his 20s, according to police, although they have not given him a name.
According to Providence Mayor Brett Smiley, seven of the victims of the incident are still in stable condition, one is in serious condition, and one has been released from the hospital. According to officials, the gunman began firing in a classroom at the Holley engineering building near the eastern end of Brown’s campus on Saturday at approximately 16:00 local time (21:00 GMT).
All of the victims, including the dead and injured, were students, Brown University President Christina Paxson told reporters on Saturday. The identities of the victims have not yet been made public. According to a statement issued by the university on Sunday, Paxson said that while police conducted their investigations, certain parts of the campus remained off-limits.
