The Maldives, in Support of Palestinians, Prohibits Israelis from Entering

951987

In reaction to “the continuing atrocities and ongoing acts of genocide committed by Israel against the Palestinian people,” the Maldives said on Tuesday that Israelis would not be allowed to enter the opulent archipelago. The action was taken in response to a new clause in the nation’s Immigration Act that specifically forbids those with Israeli passports from entering the Republic of the Maldives.

Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the president of the Maldives, confirmed the third modification to the Maldives Immigration Act after the People’s Majlis passed it, according to a statement from his office. The Maldivian government reiterated its unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and its steadfast dedication to advancing and defending the rights of the Palestinian people, the statement said. The Maldives is still loud in its denunciation of Israel’s activities on several international forums and continues to push for responsibility for transgressions of international law.

In line with pertinent UN resolutions and international legal standards, Dr. Muizzu has repeatedly reaffirmed the Maldives’ uncompromising support for the creation of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine, based on the pre-1967 boundaries, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

A small Islamic nation comprising over 1,000 carefully positioned coral islets, the Maldives is well-known for its remote white sand beaches, shallow blue lagoons, and Robinson Crusoe-style retreats.
