On Friday, President Donald Trump revealed that he is proposing Kevin Warsh to be the 17th chair of the Federal Reserve once Jerome Powell’s tenure ends in May. I am happy to say that I am nominating Kevin Warsh to be the CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM,” Trump said on his social media account on Friday morning. “I’ve known Kevin for a long time, and I have no doubt that he will be remembered as one of the best Fed Chairmen, if not the best.”
Later on Friday, Trump talked more about his choice in a meeting in the Oval Office. He said, “I would say that this was the perfect candidate.” This was the ideal man for the job. He was the best student, went to the best schools, and was the youngest person ever to work for the Fed. Got everything. Looks don’t matter, but he does have the look, right?
Warsh is a very normal choice for Fed chair. He used to be a governor of the Fed and was once considered for the Treasury secretary job in Trump’s second term. He also ran for the top job at the Fed during Trump’s first term. At 35, Warsh became the youngest person ever to serve on the important board of the Federal Reserve.
