On Thursday, President Donald Trump unveiled a new set of tariffs, which include a 100% tax on imported branded medications unless a company is constructing a US manufacturing facility. On his Truth Social platform, he announced a number of industry-focused penalties, including a 25% tariff on all heavy-duty truck imports and a 50% levie on kitchen and bathroom cabinets.
The necessity to shield American manufacturers from foreign imports is the basis for this, Trump said, referring to the massive “FLOODING” of these products into the United States by other foreign nations. Despite pleas from American companies for the White House to refrain from enacting additional tariffs, the announcements were made.
According to Trump, the purpose of the heavy truck tariffs was to shield American producers from “unfair outside competition” and to boost domestic firms like Mack Trucks and Peterbilt. According to his writing, these businesses “will be protected from the onslaught of outside interruptions”
The additional levies on kitchen and bathroom cabinets, as well as some other furnishings, were in response to high levels of imports, which impacted local manufacturers, the president stated. He also mentioned that starting next week, the United States would impose a 30% duty on upholstered furniture.
