US President Donald Trump declared on Friday that he would order all federal agencies to cease utilizing Anthropic’s AI technology right away.We will never do business with them again since we don’t need or want it.” Trump stated in a post on Truth Social.
Anthropic is embroiled in a dispute with the White House as a result of its refusal to grant the US military unrestricted access to its artificial intelligence capabilities. US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth declared that he had considered Anthropic a “supply chain risk” as a result of the rejection.
Anthropic would become the first US corporation to be publicly labelled in this way. The business declared that it “will challenge any supply chain risk designation in court” on Friday evening.
Trump’s order followed days of back and forth between Hegseth and the company’s CEO, Dario Amodei, both in public and privately. In recent months, the corporation had been worried that the government may use its AI technologies, such as Claude, for “fully autonomous weapons” and “mass surveillance.”
Anthropic has being pressured by Hegseth and the Pentagon to consent to “any lawful use” of its equipment and technologies. The defense secretary stated on X that Anthropic will be “immediately” classified as a supply chain risk, preventing any company that collaborates with the military from engaging in “any commercial activity with Anthropic.” Both Trump and Hegseth made their announcements regarding Anthropic on social media.
