A mass shooting in British Columbia left nine people dead and 27 injured, including two who were reportedly in serious or life-threatening conditions, leaving a small community in grief on Wednesday. The alleged gunman was discovered dead inside the school from “a self-inflicted injury,” but police have not yet made his identity public.

There was a mass shooting in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, on Tuesday that left nine people dead and 27 injured. An update from RCMP is anticipated around 11:30 PT. You can watch the livestream above or follow the latest developments below.

Although the gunman was discovered dead inside the school, officers claimed they will “struggle” to ever identify a motive for what has turned out to be one of the bloodiest shootings in Canadian history. According to Prime Minister Mark Carney, the flags of all federal government buildings nationwide will fly at half-mast. The question period for today has been cancelled.

Six people were killed at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, according to the RCMP. A seventh person passed away en route to the hospital. Police said the school shooting was linked to the discovery of two additional bodies in a house. With the suspect’s death from a “self-inflicted injury,” the total number of fatalities is 10.
