A second round of negotiations between US and Iranian officials is scheduled for Tuesday in Switzerland. Iran claims that the conference would center on its nuclear program and the possible easing of US economic sanctions. Washington has already stated that it would like to talk about other matters as well.
The Abraham Lincoln, which carries 5,680 crew members, 90 aircraft, including F35 fighters, and three guided missile destroyers in a strike group, was purportedly sent to the Gulf region in late January, but it hasn’t been visible in satellite images until today. It is around 700 kilometres from Iran, off the coast of Oman. The largest warship in the world, the USS Gerald R. Ford, has apparently been dispatched by the US to the Middle East and is expected to arrive in the area within the next three weeks.
With the arrival of the Abraham Lincoln, we now have further information regarding the recent US military buildup in the Middle East, where BBC Verify has documented a rise of US fighter jets, destroyers, and battle ships.
