Copies of a “birthday book” that was handed to the late convicted paedophile billionaire Jeffrey Epstein on his 50th birthday in 2003 have been made public by US senators. The book purports to contain a letter that US President Donald Trump signed.
Lawmakers also made public a wealth of papers, including Epstein’s will and personal address book, in addition to the book. After being subpoenaed last month, the estate’s attorneys submitted records to the House Oversight Committee.
The announcement was made only hours after Democrats leaked the purported message from Trump that included a body drawing of a woman. Its validity was disputed by the White House on Monday, claiming that the president “did not draw this picture, and he did not sign it.
Trump called the purported birthday message “a fake thing” and denied authoring it when the Wall Street Journal revealed its contents in July. Prior to this legislative release, images of the memo had not been made public. These are not my words or my speech pattern. Before filing a lawsuit against the publication, he said, “I don’t draw pictures either.”
Seeking $10 billion (£7.4 billion) in damages, the president sued the Wall Street Journal’s reporters, publisher, and executives, including Rupert Murdoch, the owner of News Corp. Republican committee chairman James Comer accused Democrats on the House Oversight panel of “cherry-picking documents and politicizing information” they got from the estate in a statement released with the documents.
