In the midst of one of the most significant campaign changes in recent memory, Canadian voters will cast their ballots on Monday. Although the contest has been closer recently, the Liberals have turned the tide of the election after January surveys showed the Conservatives were certain to win. Over 7.3 million ballots were cast in the early voting, shattering previous records.

Frank Graves, president and CEO of the Canadian polling company EKOS Research, stated, “It’s pretty clear that the Liberals are going to win this now.” “That was completely unimaginable at the start of this year.

Last autumn, long-time Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s affordability issue and inflation prompted Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre, who was viewed as a Trump-like character, to capitalise on growing populism.

Trudeau’s resignation on January 6 of this year, however, opened the door for new Liberal leadership, as President Donald Trump began his second term, posing a trade war danger to Canada’s economy. All of a sudden, Canadians united against Trumpism and in support of their national identity.

The Brexit referendum in the UK and Donald Trump’s victory in the US were both influenced by the idea that the people should regain control of the government from the corrupt elite. According to a study co-authored by Graves, 34% of Canadians hold a populist viewpoint. According to Graves, Canadians questioned, “Do we want to go down this populist path?” when they saw Trump return to government this election.
