Taipei/San Francisco To regain market share in the data center space, Intel unveiled its next generation Xeon server processors on Tuesday. The company also disclosed that the cost of its Gaudi 3 artificial intelligence accelerator chips would be significantly less than that of its competitors.
According to data from Mercury Research, Intel’s share of the x86 data center chip market has decreased by 5.6 percentage points to 76.4% over the past year, with AMD now holding a 23.6% share.
Due to issues with Intel’s manufacturing process, AMD has gained market share by creating new chips using Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (2330.TW).
There are two main variants of the Xeon 6 server processors: a “efficiency” model that Intel marketed as a substitute for chips from previous generations and a larger, more potent version.
