The Mexican government had put limitations on passenger and freight flights into Mexico City some years ago, and the Trump administration threatened to dissolve a long-standing alliance between Delta Air Lines and Aeromexico and slapped fresh restrictions on flights from Mexico on Saturday.
A trade agreement between the two nations was broken, according to Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, when Mexican airlines were forced to relocate from the main Benito Juarez International Airport to the more modern Felipe Angeles International Airport, which is 50 kilometers away. This gave domestic airlines an unfair advantage.

The Transportation Department will now force all Mexican passenger, cargo, and charter airlines to submit their itineraries and request government permission of their flights until Duffy is pleased with Mexico’s treatment of US airlines.
